Milan Fashion Week Spring Summer 2010

Who: Roberto Cavalli
What it made us think of: How much we love it when Cavalli deviates for the overtly sexy, barely there, hyper-print clothes in favor of simpler, more ladylike, chic.
What we liked:
Pants, AWESOME Pants, flowing dresses, flowing dresses over pants, fun lining in the jackets
What we didn't: really frumpy jumpsuits
Who: Just Cavalli
What it made us think of: Early 90s
What we liked: Rocker jackets, vests, print mini dresses
What we didn't: Dingy slips as dresses, overdone fringe, awkward sheer pieces, rehashed 90s grunge
Who: Moschino
What it made us think of: Girliness whether in solid, dark neutrals or in bright, over-the-top prints
What we liked: Some of the playful prints, nice tailored navy looks for spring
What we didn't: The overboard print mixing, the fact that the show didn't fit together very well

Who: Moschino Cheap & Chic
What it made us think of: Pushing Daisies goes on a picnic (an for a brief moment a picnic in bizarro world).
What we liked: Ruffles, polka-dots, daisy prints, black-white-red color combination
What we didn't: Jumpsuits in a huge daisy print are a bit much, as are ducks on rompers and a few other really strange pieces.

Spring Summer 2010

Look at the bright colours! Especially the left and the middle ones! Me *heart*
Definitely the best outfit for summer and picnics/outings. Reminds me of Gossip Girl ;)
Show off your colours and make the heads turn x)

Rather plain colours compared to previous designs, yet brings out the feminity in the one who wears it.
Check out the polka dots and daisy prints! They're just lovely :)

Fancy the jeans, as well as the lacey vest! ;)
Not forgetting the lil' shiny details on the dress which attracts attention, and the specially designed heels which match those dresses well.

Top Fashion Brass Take on the Doll

Barbie may be turning 50 this year, but she doesn’t look a day over, well, teenage fashion-model age, to be exact. As part of Mattel’s global birthday celebration, she made her runway debut in Bryant Park. And while there’s speculation that Ken is still in the closet, everyone’s outed themselves when it comes to their love for Barbie. Fifty designers —Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, Anna Sui, Rachel
Roy, and Brian Reyes, to name a few—created looks for the show. Backstage was calm compared to the mayhem front of house, packed with little girls in pink T-shirts, tulle tutus, and Uggs waiting anxiously with their mothers for the show to start. Front-row turnout included Diane von Furstenberg, Annie Leibovitz, Simon Doonan, and Heidi Klum. Robert Verdi was overheard pondering, “How many Kens can fit in here?”

The show started with a video montage of Barbie in all her incarnations (she’s had over 100 careers) set to Hole’s “Doll Parts.” Totally fitting, but kind of ironic since it’s difficult to imagine Courtney Love ever playing with any kind of doll. While some of the looks were pure fantasy like Bob Mackie’s incredible gold-beaded gown with marabou-feather trim and Marchesa’s lavender tulle confection, others could easily transcend the toy-store shelf to the city sidewalk. Costello Tagliapietra’s jersey dress in rust had a Lauren Hutton circa American Gigolo vibe; Derek Lam’s black-and-orange floral-print silk coat and dress will be perfect when the weather warms up in a month or two.

And while still chic, it seemed that some designers had crafted a few new occupations for Barbie as well: Rosa Chá’s Bondage Barbie, Jeremy Scott’s Vegas Cocktail Waitress, Catherine Malandrino’s American Flag Barbie (Can you work as an American Flag? How much does that pay?). While none are for sale, some will be on display at Bloomingdale’s. But the party doesn’t stop in Bryant Park. The world’s largest Barbie store is opening in Shanghai early March, complete with a spa and a bridal service that offers a $15,000 Vera Wang gown. Buy it, and Mattel will throw in a doll specially created to resemble you in said gown. Following will be the life-size Malibu Barbie Dreamhouse, in Malibu, decorated by Jonathan Adler. “I am so excited about this. When I was a kid, I ripped the heads off my sister’s Barbies. This is my way of making amends.”

Top Fashion | top Fashion blog

Yes ladies and gents, I too am big in the land of Lederhosen and motorways with no speed limit, as on Thursday I was the top story on Modepilot – Germany’s top Fashion blog. Now my German’s not brilliant (B at GCSE, really should have been an A, but I digress….), but I do know that the lovely Kathrin Bierling has said that I’m her New Favourite Blog! It’s all thanks to the massively talented and utterly fabulous Stefan Lindemann – Fashion Editor of German InStyle, and ex-Shopping Editor (a title I’d like die for) at Grazia (UK). Stefan was my first ever Fashion mentor, and taught me everything I know about Chanel and Dim Sum (i.e. Chanel has to be earned, and it’s almost impossible to eat Dim Sum if you keep Kosher). So, in honour of Stefan, Kathrin, and my legions of German fans here’s my top 5 German Fashion/ Style icons….

5. Hugo Boss - So, their involvement in the manufacture of Black uniforms for the Third Reich isn’t exactly ideal, but who hasn’t at some point (most probably in their teens, and as part of a Boots gift set) owned a Hugo Boss fragrance? On that basis alone I feel the mega-brand deserves 5th place in my German hall of fame.

4. Jil Sander – It’s not something that comes particularly naturally to me (ok – so I find it almost impossible –blame it on the big boobs), but Jil Sander is undoubtedly the Queen of Minimalism. If what you’re looking for is a brilliantly cut piece with like no bling and shit, then Jil’s ya lady.

3. When it comes to style icons very few people would argue that Marlene Dietrich is up there. Way way ahead of the game Marlene was doing the whole androgynous thing before anyone knew what it was, and famously said, "I dress for myself. Not for the image, not for the public, not for the fashion, not for men” – my kinda lady!

2. Diane Kruger – I mean, does she ever look bad?! I just have such a monumental style crush on her it’s not even funny. Kruger has a body to die for (she’s an ex-model, so fairs fair), and a wardrobe I’d kill for. In my eyes she always manages to walk the fine line between on-trend and fashion slave, and it always looks so god darn effortless. God – if I didn’t love her so much I’d hate her!

1. Storming in at 1st place is the one and only Karl Lagerfeld - in my opinion the best thing to come out of Germany since the Black Forest Gateau (and I can tell you that takes some beating). Captain of the good ship Chanel isn’t something that’s just given away, and I think if the fashion world is united in one thing (other than it’s love of stick-thin models and fur) then it’s that Lagerfeld is worthy of the crown. I’d always been a fan, but it was only after I saw that documentary film Lagerfeld Confidential (if you haven’t seen it yet – go do so) that the obsession began and I really came to realise and admire his genius. Even If Germany never again produces a Fashion designer the German fashion fraternity can forever rest smug in the knowledge that they gave the world Karl.

On the Street....Thea, New York

Isn't it so refreshing to see a sixteen year-old dressed like this?

I didn't immediately know if I wanted to take this shot. While I was deciding I thought about my own daughters and realized it would be nice for them to see a young lady ,that is obviously very cool, dressed like this instead of the constant media parade of Britneys and Lindsays. This is the anti-"Jersey Shore" (I mean the show not the actual place)

On the Street....Mr. Zegna, Milano

On the Street....Fabrizio, Milan

Fabrizio is one of the few men I know that can pull-off a club collar shirt. On him it looks so normal.

I also love the military tie-tuck, that's something we just don't see enough of these days
